Do Your Business Photos Reflect Professionalism?

You are a passionate business owner with a solution to many people’s problems;

You enjoy sharing your expertise and know that so many can learn from you;

And your number one goal is to enhance people’s lives and make a difference with what you do.

But are people seeing you and experiencing all that you have to offer?

A common mistake many entrepreneurs and business owners make is the lack of professionalism in their photos and marketing materials. Or even a lack of business photos at all!

If this is you, you are not alone; is your presence visible in front of your ideal clients? Is your headshot present on your website, Facebook page/profile, business card, and other marketing materials? For people to recognize you and your brand, they need to see you and your business clearly in front of them at the appropriate times.

Headshots are the first photo we recommend with your business. This is the starting point and should be the bare minimum when representing yourself. You can learn more about the importance of headshots here.

Important tip: Always make sure your headshot is up to date. It can be irritating for people to see a photo of you and then when they meet you in person, realize you look nothing like your headshot you have been using with your materials. We recommend updating your headshot once every year or two.

Next, we recommend that you have some photos taken of your staff (if applicable), and your business location/setting. This gives people a sense of who you are and what your business is about. If you work from home, consider having some professional photos taken with some props to represent your business.

Many people make the mistake of using a grainy, poorly-lit selfie as their business headshot and have no other photos to represent them and their business. Be wary of doing this; it can carry a lot of weight when it comes to how your potential clients view your professionalism.

To get started, we recommend you book a photo session today!

Capture the long days of summer with a family portrait

A family portrait is a treasure at any time – but Summer provides such a wonderful opportunity to capture the joy of a family at play.

This Summer, why not create a lasting memory and a unique piece of art, with a portrait taken outside in the beauty of nature.

Here’s a tip for a wonderful Summer portrait:

  • If you have young children, portraits of them playing in the water will bring a smile to your face for years to come.
  • If your family has a special place such as a farm or cabin – or even just a favourite spot in the local park – this is a wonderful backdrop for a fun, relaxed portrait.

We also recommend you bring the following to your Summer portrait:

  • Sunscreen on hot days
  • Clothing you feel comfortable in
  • Insect repellent – just in case!
  • Props (if the location does not have a lot of playful options)
  • Cold drinks and snacks for younger ones

Miko Photography is now taking bookings for on-location shoots this summer.

Call (403) 451-9769 or email info@mikophotography.com to book your session now!

5 Easy Ideas for Spring-Inspired Photos

It’s finally Spring! One of my favourite times of the year is Spring. The snow starts to melt, the sun shines a little longer into the day, and the weather is nice enough to start doing some fun activities outside with the kids. It’s also that time of year where you can play with some really fun photo ideas (perhaps even get some taken when your family is all together for Easter!)

Here are 5 easy ideas for cute Spring-inspired photos with your kids:

  1. Go to your local dollar store and check out their selection of umbrellas. You’d be surprised with the neat patterns you will find! Let each kid choose their favourite umbrella for some photos that are sure to produce some giggles.
  2. If you have girls, are they into tea parties? Find some fun dresses and sunhats at your local thrift shop and a cute tea set (plus some stuffed animals if you choose!) for some memorable shots of your girls.
  3. Pretty soon the dandelions will be out. Have some fun in a field of golden yellow dandelions and take advantage of this pop of colour for some bright and cheery photos.
  4. Check out a nearby park with trees, swings, and slides for some action shots.
  5. Paint some eggs or create some Easter crafts that can be used as props in a photoshoot.

From now until the end of June, we have some Spring mini photo sessions at Fish Creek Park. This package includes a 30 minute photo session and an 8×10 print or a set of 5×7 prints for only $79.

Take advantage of the long evenings and enjoy a photo session with your family in the beauty of nature.  Our sessions are fun and relaxed and we aim to capture photos that reflect who you are as a family.  Call Jana at 403 451 9769 to book.

The New Year has arrived and we wanted to share with you 10 easy steps you can take to make sure this is the best (and most organized!) year for all your photo needs:

1. Plan your photo sessions for the year.

There are many great moments throughout the year. Knowing when to have your photo sessions can make your life a whole lot easier than to wait until the last minute. Some important photo sessions to keep in mind could be January business headshots, May Mother’s Day photos, June Father’s Day photos, Fall photos for Christmas cards, back to school photos, December “Home for the Holiday” photos, and so much more!  Continue reading
