Christmas is coming fast…don’t forget about Christmas cards!

This recent snowfall has reminded me of how quickly Christmas is coming.  What an exciting time!  What are some of your favourite traditions leading up to the holidays?  Between now and the New Year, our family receives an abundance of Christmas cards from family and friends.  I love reading their updates, hearing about what they have planned for the upcoming year, and most of all, seeing a family photo with the card.

Each year, your family changes; kids start growing up, and your extended family and loved ones want to visually experience those special transitions in your life.  One of the best gifts to give at Christmas is a professional portrait of your family.  Keep in mind that there is only a limited number of weeks until Christmas, and that family photos should be booked sooner than later!  Book an appointment today to schedule your shoot before spaces fill up.

Unhappy with your child’s school photos?

Have you ever received your child’s school photos and either you or they (or both of you) were unhappy with the proofs?  Maybe they felt uncomfortable with the way they had to sit, the photographer did not  make them feel at ease, or in general, they were just having a bad day on school picture day. Whatever the case may be, there is an alternative to those pictures that you can consider that will make both you and your child happy!

Each child, and family, is unique.  Let’s face it, school photographers do not have the time to really capture your child’s true personality and character by simply having them pose in a pre-arranged position.  This can often cause kids to feel tense, and not let loose to show their true smile and personality.

If your family is a homeschooling family, you may not have the opportunity for school portraits.  It is still important for you to capture your kids’ growing up years, and as a professional photographer, Miko Photography can help.

Do you want your photos to stand out and look different than they have in the past?  When you book individual or family photos with Miko Photography, we will make sure you get a beautiful portrait of each child that you can proudly hang on your wall or give to family and friends.  Contact us today, and we can discuss a special print package for each child!

Fall Photos Make Great Christmas Cards!

I love this beautiful time of year!  With the leaves changing from green to golden yellows and oranges, there is a certain elegance that is portrayed in the scenery of our everyday lives.  Not only are these colours beautiful to look at, but they also make stunning backdrops for family photos.  Some of the best Christmas cards I have received were ones that included a family picture that was taken during the fall.

Need some inspiration for where you can take fall family photos?  Here are five location ideas for you to consider.  A professional photographer can help you find the perfect location!

In a park – Find a park with trees.  The leaves can still be attached or they can be on the ground; either way, the photos look great!  It makes it a lot more fun for kids when there are leaves to play in!

In a field – Wide open, grassy spaces can be great for group shots, or action shots, if the kids enjoy running around.  Corn fields are also fun locations to shoot fall photos!

By a river – The reflections of nature in the water create a beautiful backdrop for your photos.

At a farm – Live in the country or know someone who does?  Opt to take your photos in the country by a big red barn, with some horses, or simply along a wooden fence.

At a pumpkin patch – Some of the cutest photos are found taken at a pumpkin patch.

Don’t Just Post It – Print It!

When was the last time you took your digital camera to the store and actually developed photos?  With all of the technology available to us, we often forget or simply don’t feel like going to get pictures developed when we can easily scroll through our cameras or phones to browse those images that we took not once, not twice, but possibly three or more times to capture the perfect photo.  We have the luxury of capturing a photo and instantly seeing the results of our handy work, but what is the point of perfecting the ‘perfect shot’ if you don’t even print it for others to see?  We all know that a house simply does not feel like a home unless there are pictures hanging on the walls.  Simply posting on social media may gain some ‘likes’ and impressive comments; however, having those photos printed and on display or in a photo album for guests to browse through can be fun to reminisce, start a conversation, or simply brag about how great your kids looked at their graduation or wedding.  We are proud of our families and friends and the moments we share with them, why not share that happiness with printed photos?

Let’s not forget that technology can fail.  If you drop your camera or phone in water or if it breaks, then those 500 to 1000+ photos are all gone, taking away some precious memories that photos bring.  Printed photos leave a legacy of you, your family, and your friends.

Today, I encourage you to take time to organize and print your photos.  Don’t feel that your photos are of good quality?  I encourage you to hire a photographer to take some professional shots that you can print and proudly hang on your walls.
